The National September 11 Memorial & Museum (also known as the 9/11 Memorial) are located at the former Twin Towers site, which were destroyed by terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. The memorial and museum were built to commemorate the victims, first responders, and family members who were affected by the tragedy.
At the center of the memorial are two one-acre pools with the largest man-made waterfalls in the U.S. to symbolize the loss of life and the physical void left by the attacks. Surrounding the reflective pools are the names of victims and the "Survivor Tree," a callery pear tree that was recovered from the rubble at the World Trade Center site. Next to the memorial is a museum which features exhibits that include images, artifacts, and oral histories of September 11, 2001.
Nearby attractions include: New York City Fire Museum, South Street Seaport, Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, City Hall, Wall Street and Bowling Green.
