The Colorado State Capitol is home of the Colorado General Assembly and the offices of the Governor of Colorado and Liuetenant Governor of Colorado. The building was built as a replica of the U.S. Capitol and features a distinictive gold dome and white granite exterior. Many of the windows are stained glass, depicting people or events related to the history of Colorado. The halls are decorated with portraits of every U.S. president. Serving as the heart of the Capitol Hill district, the historic building sits slightly higher than the rest of downtown Denver, overlooking the Rocky Mountains.
